MKEC is growing its Electric Utility Group and has an opening for an AutoCAD Designer/Technician to join our team in the Overland Park, KS, location.

This position will assist project managers and engineers in the preparation of construction drawings primarily for electric substation design development. On occasion, support for other areas including distribution, transmission and generation projects may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide drafting support to engineers and designers of Electric Utility related projects, primarily focused on the development of substation physical and electrical drawing creation.
  • Working with engineers, develop ACAD drawings depicting general arrangement, elevation, details, BOM, one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.
  • Incorporate red line changes in existing drawings, as directed by designers and engineers.
  • Setting up and compiling drawing packages that will ultimately be issued to Clients.
  • Successful candidate will be required to set up and utilize BlueBeam Revu Sessions and Projects to facilitate the review/markup of drawing sets to facilitate drawing package development.
  • Candidate will be required to effectively communicate with drafters, designers and engineers in other disciplines within the company to ensure items are accurately depicted in design packages.
  • Development of routinely used part blocks and CAD library items will be required.
  • Compliance with Company and Client safety programs will be required.

Requirements:

  • Associates degree (minimum) in drafting required.
  • 3+ years of drafting experience in substation physical and electrical design/drafting required.
  • Must be proficient in the use of AutoCAD.
  • Experience with 3D drafting/design is preferred (Civil 3D, Revit, Inventor, etc.).
  • Able to recognize, understand and develop diagrams using electrical and part symbols, reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams as well as substation physical, civil and structural drawings.
  • Knowledgeable of industry standards related to layering and drawing development.
  • Must possess experience working in scaled drawings.
  • Must understand coordinate systems and be able to orient ACAD drawing components in real-world coordinates and working with UCS.
  • Ability to learn and implement client specific standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Desire to be part of a team-oriented culture.
  • Good time management skills and ability to routinely meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Proficient user of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
