We’re looking for a Substation Physical Design Engineer to join our Electric Utility Design team at our Overland Park location (in office).
Responsibilities:
- Development of substation design drawings including:
- General Arrangements & Layouts
- Elevations & Section Details
- Below Grade Conduit Plans & Schedules
- Lightning Protection Plans/Analysis
- Ground Grid Design & Grounding Details
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Control Building Layouts & Equipment
- Develop bid documents and material specifications.
- Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback.
- Effectively communicate design requirements and collaborate with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, survey, etc.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to staff members.
- Attend client meetings to ensure the design meets their needs and objectives.
Requirements:
- B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- PE license in Kansas preferred (or the ability to obtain the license in a timely manner).
- 5-7 years of experience in Substation Physical design.
- Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Rural Utility Service (RUS) Bulletins, and applicable IEEE Standards.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.
- Experience with PLS-POLE/CADD, Osmose O-Calc Pro, ETAP, Milsoft WindMil/LightTable, SKM Power Tools, Substation Design Suite (SDS), is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of power system design and operations.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project tasks. Excellent presentation, written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required.
- Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, be self-directed, exhibit good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
- Occasional travel for site visits and client meetings may be required.
