MKEC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its industrial group located in our Wichita, Kansas office. This position will work with in-house engineers, manufacturers, outside engineers, and clients to design HVAC, hydronic, hydraulic, compressed air, bagging vacuum, chip vacuum and various types of plumbing systems in building environments for various clients of MKEC. Our ideal candidate is typically a self-motivated individual, who realizes we are in a service-based industry and who thrives on helping clients with highly technical mechanical projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical systems for the purpose of bidding and construction for various projects.
  • Lead mechanical design in all phases of the projects.
  • Analyze, perform, and communicate feasibility, project estimates, energy usage calculations, and comparative analysis of equipment.
  • Attend meetings with owners, clients, or architects as needed.
  • Confer with other engineers and personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated responses from all disciplines.
  • Perform heat loss/gain and pressure loss calculations.
  • Review contractor submittals (shop drawings, etc.) to determine conformance with contract documents.
  • Research, evaluate, design, and specify mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes to meet requirements, apply knowledge of engineering principles.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering from an accredited program.
  • 3-7+ years of experience.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or soon to be.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, IMC, IPC and NFPA codes.
  • Experience in technical industrial Mechanical Design and Consulting Engineering.
  • Experience in HVAC system controls and sequence of operation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Have a basic knowledge of electrical systems, structures and foundations, and site/civil.
  • Have a working knowledge of the maintenance aspect of equipment specified.
  • Have some previous project management experience.
  • Ability to prepare proposals and/or cost estimates for potential projects
  • Ability to perform scheduling and billing tasks.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Ability to perform site inspection for both pre and final design phases.
